17 Columbus Courtyard | Life Sciences Lighting Project

28 July 2026

Orlight is proud to be supporting the lighting specification for 17 Columbus Courtyard, a major refurbishment and repositioning project in the heart of Canary Wharf.

The development will transform an existing office building into a new life-sciences and technology hub, providing approximately 190,000 sq ft of CL2 laboratory workspace within a 256,000 sq ft building. Flexible laboratories and offices will accommodate organisations at different stages of growth, from emerging businesses to established science and technology companies.

Alongside its specialist workspaces, the building will offer a range of occupier-focused amenities. Communal areas, meeting facilities and collaborative spaces will help create an environment designed not only for scientific research, but also for interaction, knowledge sharing and business development.

For this significant redevelopment, Orlight is supporting the lighting specification with a coordinated package that brings together general illumination, architectural lighting and emergency provision. The schedule reflects the scale and technical complexity of a building being repositioned for a highly specialised new use.

The scheduled package includes ORLLED600 luminaires together with NEBULA150 and ORION downlights, providing a versatile combination of general and architectural lighting. ORLINE recessed linear luminaires, MARINEFLEX and extensive bespoke recessed linear systems add further flexibility, enabling the lighting design to respond to different dimensions and architectural conditions across the scheme.

ORLWP4 luminaires and GUARDIAN emergency fittings are also included within the schedule, alongside emergency variants across the wider product selection. Together, these elements support the durability, resilience and life-safety requirements identified within the project specification.

DALI control, emergency functionality and a selection of IP-rated luminaires are incorporated throughout the package, supporting coordinated control, maintenance and reliable long-term performance.

By combining standard product families with project-specific linear solutions, Orlight's scheduled package demonstrates the company's ability to respond to a large and technically demanding redevelopment while maintaining consistency across the wider lighting specification.
